No. Use of these services is not for emergencies. If you think you have a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress and crisis resources for loved ones.

Yes. Session Sync was built to meet HIPAA and HITECH standards using encryption and assigned user permissions to safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI).

Yes. You need a webcam-enabled device (e.g., computer, laptop, tablet, cell phone, etc.), internet connection and a valid credit card or debit card.

No. Session Sync is a communication platform for psychotherapy/psychological services with licensed psychologists via videoconference over the Internet. You may search the provider database and request appointments however acceptance of appointment requests is not guaranteed and are subject to the clinical judgement of each individual psychologist.

No. Session Sync provides a user interface for psychologists and patients (outlined in the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy). All clinical decisions including informed consent, screening, intake, treatment planning, etc. are the responsibility of each psychologist.

No. Psychologists using the Session Sync platform to provide services are not the employees or agents of Session Sync.

Yes. Each psychologist using Session Sync sets their own fee(s) for service. Pricing is listed on each providers’ profile.

Yes. Treatment duration and session frequency is based on various factors. You will work with your psychologist to discuss an appropriate treatment plan.

Yes. Psychologists using Session Sync set their own hours. This gives you flexibility in finding a time that works best for you.

No. Session Sync strictly accepts private pay and does not accept insurance. However, some insurance plans will at least partially reimburse people for the therapy sessions they have paid for. We cannot guarantee if services will be reimbursed by your insurance, as this varies from plan to plan. For information about reimbursement rates, contact your insurance provider.

Yes. In order to schedule an appointment, you must provide a valid credit card or debit card. Your information is entered and stored through Stripe, a secure online payment processor. Your card is charged the full amount of the agreed session fee 24 hours before the scheduled appointment start time.

No. Video sessions are included for active Session Sync users. Users simply log in to their account, select the scheduled session and click on the Begin secure video session button. This button appears 24 hours before the scheduled session and the video link is active until midnight on the day of the scheduled appointment. The HIPAA-compliant video platform is directly imbedded in the Session Sync website so users do not need anything additional.

Note: Zoom video conferencing software may need to be downloaded during first use.

Yes. Your account is charged in full 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. If you fail to cancel an appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment, you will be charged the full amount of the session. If a psychologist cancels an appointment less than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment, a full refund of the amount paid by you will be refunded to you.

Yes. You can search for and request an appointment with any psychologist licensed in the state where you are, expanding your options!

Yes. Session Sync is only available to licensed psychologists.

Yes. One of the most common differences is psychiatrists prescribe medication whereas most psychologists do not. Psychologists typically provide “talk therapy”, or psychotherapy, which commonly involves discussing feelings, thoughts and experiences that you may be having and learning how to cope.

Yes. While video conferencing is different than in-person interaction, psychotherapy skills can still be translated to a digital environment. The primary obstacle, initially, is challenging the norm and familiarizing one’s self with a webcam and video interface. One could argue that video provides a more intimate experience in therapy by bringing the psychologist into the patient’s home/environment.

Yes. Video appointments bring psychotherapy/psychological services to patients who may not normally have access due to work/school schedule, travel limitations, mobility challenges, childcare responsibilities, etc.

Psychologist FAQ

Yes. Session Sync was built to meet HIPAA and HITECH standards using end to end encryption and assigned user permissions to safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI). A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is available on the psychologist login portal.

Yes! A BAA is available to active psychologist users of Session Sync.

Yes. Psychologists using Session Sync must have a web cam enabled device (e.g., computer, laptop, tablet, cell phone, etc.), internet connection and a valid debit card or bank account.

Zero! Session Sync operates with a simple fee structure. Psychologists establish their own rates, and a portion of each charge (10%) is provided to Session Sync Inc. as payment for its technological services, overhead, administrative support and other corporate costs and fees, including transaction fees for credit card usage.

You! Each licensed psychologist using Session Sync operates as a private practice provider.

Direct deposit. The session fee minus the above-referenced portion (10%) to Session Sync is direct deposited into your bank account. The patient is charged in full 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Yes. In order to receive payment for services, you must provide a valid debit card or bank account. Your information is entered and stored through Stripe, a secure online payment processor.

No. Session Sync strictly accepts private pay and does not accept insurance. However, you may consider sliding scale fees or super bills for patients (as appropriate).

You! Psychologists using Session Sync market their own services and manage their own caseload. As a provider with Session Sync you have the added benefit of exposure through company-wide promotion and marketing.

You! Psychologists using Session Sync set their own hours. You have the freedom to create a schedule that works best for you

Yes! With telepsychology, you can reach patients in the entire state(s) that you are licensed in. You may also reach patients who may not normally access psychotherapy/psychological services due to work/school schedule, travel limitations, mobility challenges, childcare responsibilities, etc.

Yes. After a patient requests an appointment, the psychologist has control to accept, decline or reschedule.

No. Session Sync allows patients to book appointments with psychologists up to the time of the appointment opening, however, you are welcome to set your own policies regarding scheduling and post them on your landing page. After a patient requests an appointment, the psychologist has control to accept, decline or reschedule.

Yes. The patient is charged in full 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. If a patient fails to cancel an appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment, the patient will be charged the full amount of the session. If a psychologist cancels an appointment less than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment, a full refund of the amount paid by the patient will be refunded to the patient.

Yes. Video appointment links remain active until midnight on the day of the scheduled appointment.

Yes. You can schedule, charge and chart from Session Sync. For no additional fee you can also utilize secure messaging, secure document transfer and automatic appointment reminders via email.

Yes. Session Sync provides basic note writing capability, including the option to create note templates for frequently used verbiage/format.

Yes. However, Session Sync’s fee structure does not change based on feature usage.

Yes. Session Sync includes secure document transfer to send and receive documents. Once the appointment is confirmed, simply select the appointment under the Sessions tab and you will see File Uploads for Patient as well as Files from Patient.

No. While Session Sync keeps records for active psychologist users, this ends upon the cancellation of services. Proper storage and maintenance of protected health information (PHI), including clinical notes and records, is the responsibility of the psychologist using Session Sync according to his or her respective licensing board(s). Notes can be downloaded in PDF format from the psychologist user account.

Absolutely! Simply add your website link to your Session Sync profile, and/or add your Session Sync profile link to your website.

Yes! Acclimating to telepsychology videoconferencing is definitely possible. You bring your same set of clinical skills from the office and adapt them to a digital environment. We encourage you to read APA’s Guidelines for the Practice of Telepsychology for recommended professional behaviors for psychologists. For licensing and legal questions, we recommend that you contact your state licensing board(s). We are also happy to set up a brief demo with you.

Yes. Start when you want, stop when you want. There are no cancellation fees or hidden charges. Before you leave, however, we HIGHLY recommend that you securely save and store all notes or forms placed on the Session Sync platform to remain in compliance with record keeping guidelines. Notes can be downloaded in PDF format from the psychologist user account. Session Sync has no obligation to retain records upon cancellation of Session Sync services.
